5 eye-openers about eyelash extensions!
Q: Can I wear my contacts with eyelash extensions?
A: Yes, you can. You just shouldn’t wear them when you are getting your extensions put on or for 24 hours afterwards as you don’t want to have any complications while the glue is drying.
Q: Aren’t extensions just for the summer? And why can’t you get them wet?
A: Absolutely not! Eyelash extensions can be worn year-round, summer, spring, winter, and fall. You can shower and swim while wearing them, you just want to keep them dry for the first 24 hours after your initial full set is applied or after a fill so that the glue can set up properly. (If you don’t wait long enough, your new extensions may fall off prematurely — so protect your investment, and wait.)
Q: Aren’t extensions just for the Young and The Kardashians?
A: Seriously? Women of all ages have been getting eyelash extensions over the past few years because they are an easy way to add instant glamour and definition to the eye area. There are certainly no age restrictions and no, you don’t have to be a tv reality star to enjoy them! We recommend starting with a look that enhances or replaces your normal mascara so that you still look like you, only better. You can always add additional lashes over time if you want a more dramatic look.
Q: I heard the glue makes your eyes burn, is that true?
A: Every eyelash technician has a favored set of lashes and glues that she finds works well. High quality glue does produce small fumes, but most people do not have a reaction to it. Obviously, if you were one of the rare people who experience a reaction, your technician would immediately stop the application and you wouldn’t pay for the service. Fortunately, we use high quality glue at Artistry in Hanover, and have not had any problems with irritation to date.
Q: I heard that extensions make your lashes fall out!
A: Each of us have a personal growth cycle for eyelashes. In general it can take up to 45 days for a lash to grow from — out to a full length lash. Each lash can stay in place approximately 100 days before it falls out and is replaced by another lash. Eyelash extensions are glued on to your individual lashes, so depending upon where your natural lashes are in the cycle, your lashes may last a few days or 100 days. Most people lose between 1 and 3 lashes each day and don’t really notice it because the body is always replacing older lashes with new lashes. So, no, extensions don’t make your lashes fall out. They fall out with your natural lashes. Sometimes you may feel like more are coming out than other times, but that’s just your natural cycle. You do have to be gentle with them by using gentle cleansers to whisk away your makeup. Don’t rub them, and use an eyelash brush to detangle them daily. They are low-maintenance!
So you tried extensions and they weren’t for you. That’s okay. If you don’t like your new extensions, don’t try to remove them yourself! Talk with your eye technician and she will use a special glue solvent to remove them for you without damaging your own lashes.
